AbstractAbstractIndustry is responsible for30% ofglobalenergy consumption, most of whichissupplied by fosilfuels. The focus ofindustrial decarbonisation has laraely beeron thesteland cementsectors, but sigicantpotentialalsoexis inlessenergyintensivesectors such as food and beverages, textiles, chemicals paner. andothermanufacturingactivies.Thesesectorsoffersome ofthemostimmediateand cost-effective opportunities forindustrialdecarbonisation and diversificationof energy sources. Comnerally avalabe electric technologies-including heatpumps, electric boilers and resistance heaters- can meet most heat demand inthese subsectorsWidespread electrification of lowin industry, coupledcan deliver multiplebenefits. In addition to reducing fossil fuelimproveenergysecurity bylowering exposure to volatile gas andoil orices andwhen integrated with thermal storage,it can create demand fexibliy that helosensure ahighershare ofvariable renewable aenerationImix throuygh elecicationof ow-ermpeature hea and steam. Itfocuses on theEuropeanUnion,ChinaandtheAssociationofSoutheastAsianNations(ASEANYexamining their techno-economic potential and existing policy environmentsFinally. the report proposes priority action areas for accelerating industrial heatelectrification.PAGE|3
