CORPORATE SALES SPRING / FALL 2020
We are a Canadian company based in the Coast Mountains. Our design process is connected to the real world, focused on delivering durable, unrivaled performance. Most of our impact stems from the sourcing of materials and construction. While we have continually progressed in providing better care instructions so products can have the longest life possible, the best place for us to get more use and benefit out of what we make is to recirculate existing product. “Unfortunately, highly specific performance materials have an intrinsic environmental burden to create and don’t have much reuse alone. Disassembly of existing gear to be made into other products is a huge challenge, requiring additional energy for construction and there are limitations with reframing already cut materials. We need to derive the maximum amount of use for a product made,” says Drummond Lawson, the Arc’teryx Director of Social and Environmental Sustainability. Incremental changes to our products have made significant advancements to their overall performance and lifetime potential. Subtle changes, like a switch in fabric technology can result in a massive shift in lifespan. We don’t rely on visible, flashy changes. We are determined to quietly shoulder the ongoing task of creating products that are built to last, proven as the most effective long–term strategy to reduce impact and be part of a sustainable economy.Fundamentally, Arc’teryx aims to do more of the good with less of the bad. We are witnessing changes to our climate and our wild spaces. We have a long–term responsibility to look at our overall supply chain. We are currently focused on the removal of carbon intense fuel sources from our production facilities. Our impact on the planet is a primary factor in how Arc’teryx can continue to grow while remaining true to our design philosophy. We began with the goal of making products that would withstand a lifetime of serious mountain adventures, and will continue to evolve our process to ensure we continue to innovate with the planet in mind.Customization is done by our in–house team. Our technical products must be handled by people with knowledge and understanding of our manufacturing process. Embroidery, reflectivity and logos are applied without comprising product performance.SUSTAINABILITY AND DESIGNThe Arc’teryx approach to sustainability begins with our product philosophy. We believe that building products to last is the most powerful lever for minimizing our environmental impact, but it is not the only option. Our motivation is to design and build not only product, but also a company that endures and performs over the long run.
